NEED TO REHOME – RUSTY
It breaks my heart to have to write this, but hoping someone can provide a better home to Rusty than we can. Rusty is an approximately 4 year old Yellow Lab mix, and he’s been in our home for the past 2 years He’s in great health, with no health issues/concerns. He’s an extremely sweet dog, who loves any and all attention from humans. He’s extremely good with kids. Our 2 boys (2 & 4) can lay on him and he’ll just lay there and let them do whatever. He’s house trained. The most we’ve left him alone was 8 hours, and he was completely fine (he has free roam of our home). Knows all basic commands and a little more. He has been trained with a training collar and responds well to his collar. He is very food driven. Overall he’s a pretty chill dog. He loves to lay outside in the sun. And look out the windows inside the house. He likes to play fetch with anything. Or just lay outside chewing on a bone.
The bad… he needs to be the only pet in the home. He does not do well with other animals of any kind. His goal if he sees another animal anywhere, is to attack it. He’s gotten numerous squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and unfortunately bees. If it flys or runs, he will chase it and attack it. He doesn’t eat anything he kills. He’s always brought it to our door to proudly say “look what I got”. The issue we’re having with him at our home, is that he’s now escaped out of our completely fenced in yard numerous times, trying to chase after an animal. We live in a well populated neighborhood, with busy streets. My worry with him here, is that he’s either going to get hit by a car, or kill someone’s pet if he gets out again. We’ve noticed the main way he gets out is by digging holes under our fences. He’s also escaped by jumping into the gate, and getting out that way. He’s an extremely strong dog.
I believe the ideal home for Rusty, would be a home in a more rural setting, with a secure, fenced in yard and someone who can be outside with him to make sure hes not digging We’re to the point where we need to muzzle him here, and that’s not fair to him. He would never hurt another human. But he just does not like any other animals.
He’s such a great dog. He loves his humans fiercely, and is overall a very sweet and loving dog. He’s the handsomest boy ever too. His eyes will make you melt. If you’d like more info on Rusty or maybe interested in giving him a new home, please contact TLC.
